Well acutally i do have a tiny question. This quest thing i'm doing. it is telling me to join a "squad". i posted in the thread it brought me to. is that all i have to do? even after i made my own thread it wont allow me to move forward. :/

Yes, the + opens the bar, It allows you to join or create a squad if you're not already in one, or see the conversation of the members in it. The Friends will allow you to see what other people in your friend's list are saying and notifications shows you things like trades or if you get a PM and things like that.
